The sales call script that converts at 40%

A40% conversion rate on your discovery calls is realistic — but only if you have solved three upstream problems: your pre-qualification quality, your offer clarity, and your call structure. This third point — structure — is what the majority of consultants neglect. They enter calls without a defined framework, improvise according to the prospect's mood, and end up pitching generically rather than diagnosing and prescribing. The result is predictable: low conversion rates, exhausting calls, and the conviction that 'sales is not my thing'.

The call script is not a straitjacket preventing you from being yourself. It is a liberating framework: when you know exactly where you are going and what questions to ask at each stage, you can be fully present to the conversation rather than mentally managing the call's logistics. Structure creates fluidity, and fluidity creates trust — both in yourself and in your prospect. And trust, in premium service sales, always precedes the purchase.

The 6 phases of a converting call

Phase 1 — Opening and calibration (3 min): Start by creating a space of trust and openness from the very first seconds. Thank the prospect for their time, briefly remind them of the call's framework: 'The goal of this call is for me to deeply understand your situation. If I think I have something that can help, I will present it. Otherwise, I will be honest.' This initial transparency disarms suspicion and creates a far more productive conversational space. Then ask what motivated them to take this call today.

Phase 2 — Situation diagnosis (10-12 min): Deeply and non-judgmentally explore the prospect's current situation. Use open questions inviting development: 'Describe where you currently are in your practice', 'What is working well?', 'What are your main blockers?', 'What have you already tried to solve this?' This phase creates real connection — your prospect feels listened to, understood, taken into account. It is the foundation of trust.

Phase 3 — Gap and stakes (5-7 min): Help the prospect clearly articulate the gap between their current and desired situation. Two fundamental questions create natural urgency and awareness of real stakes:

Phase 4 — Solution presentation (7-8 min): Only now, after diagnosing, present your solution. But do not present your entire program as a catalog — only present the elements directly addressing the problems and desires identified during diagnosis. Personalize with phrases like: 'In your specific case, here is what we would address as a priority...'

Phase 5 — Price announcement and objection handling (5-7 min): Announce your price confidently, directly, without preamble or excessive justification. 'My program is called [name] and the investment is [price].' Then silence. Let the prospect react. The objections that follow are information requests and interest signals — not refusals. Respond with curiosity and empathy, not defensiveness.

Phase 6 — Decision and next step (3-5 min): Naturally guide toward a decision or precise next step within the call. 'Do you want to move forward together?' If yes, engage the signing process. If not, schedule a precise follow-up: date, time, format, what the prospect will reflect on. Never let a call end without a clearly defined next step — the absence of a defined next step is almost always synonymous with a lost deal.

The 3 mistakes that sabotage even well-structured calls

The script is not there to turn you into a salesperson. It is there so you are structured enough to be truly present to your prospect — which is exactly what the best coaches and consultants do naturally.

Continuously improving your script

A good call script is not built in one session. It evolves with each conversation. After every call, take 5 minutes to note: what worked well? What objection appeared that you had not anticipated? At what point did the prospect seem most engaged — or conversely, did they disconnect?

Practice your script on 10 consecutive calls, timing yourself and noting recurring objections. For each new objection, build a response and integrate it into your script. In 30 days and 10 calls, you will have a personalized script reflecting your commercial reality and ideal clients — far more effective than any generic script copied from someone else.

A consultant's progression in sales skills is often non-linear. The first 10 calls feel difficult and clumsy. The next 20 begin revealing patterns. Starting with the 30th call with a worked script and rigorous post-call analysis, most consultants see significant conversion rate improvement. This is not talent — it is deliberate practice. And this skill, once developed, is a lasting competitive advantage nobody can take from you.
