As a leadership coach, the right program length is the time your promised change actually takes, not the number that feels safe. Stepping into a first management role, leading a team, landing a promotion: each shift has its own timeline. Start there, and choosing between 3 and 6 months becomes obvious.
Why does program length matter as much as price?

A leadership coaching program length is the time a client needs to move from one specific situation to another, with real proof the change happened. It is not a session count borrowed from a template.
Too short, and your client never lives the moments that prove she has grown. She leaves with good intentions but no visible win, decides it did not really work, and never refers you. Too long, and she cannot picture the finish line. Someone paying out of her own pocket looks at the end date before the content.
A leadership coach who picks a program length at random is selling a calendar, not a result.
3 months: what kind of change fits?
Three months suit a focused change with a clear deadline:
- a new manager role starting in a few weeks;
- a first presentation to senior leadership;
- an annual review where she finally wants to ask for a raise;
- a return to work after a long break.
A session every two weeks, with short check-ins when a real situation comes up, works well. Saying yes is easier and the deadline keeps everyone focused. The limit: in three months you work on a situation, not on habits built over years.
6 months: when the change is about presence and posture
Six months become necessary when the work touches her identity as a leader: pushing back on senior management, delegating without taking everything back, quieting self-doubt, preparing for a role that does not exist yet.
Women's leadership grows through real situations, and six months give those situations time to happen. Break the program into named stages with a midpoint review, and offer a payment plan so she commits to the journey rather than one lump sum. A six-month leadership program naturally sits at the high-ticket level.
How to choose in your first year
- Write your before/after sentence. She arrives unable to disagree with her boss; she leaves defending her ideas in meetings.
- List the situations that prove the change. If two or three happen within a quarter, three months is enough. Otherwise, go for six.
- Derive the session count from the length, never the other way round.
- Check it on discovery calls. Ask: by when do you want this to have changed?
The right coaching program length shows up in the client's answer to one simple question: by when do you want this to have changed? In your first year, offer one length only. Two options side by side create hesitation, and hesitation postpones decisions.
Your length flows from your promise. Want a leadership coaching offer that sells without haggling? Book a call.
