A life coach sets the price of a coaching package from three things: the change the client is looking for, the time and energy you put in, and how many clients you can truly hold at once. The price of a single session matters very little. What people buy is a journey with a beginning, an end and a result.
Why does pricing per session trap a life coach?

The price of a coaching package is the value of a complete journey, not a pile of hours. When you sell sessions one by one, you sell your time. Clients compare you to a yoga class or a one-off appointment, and they wonder at every meeting whether to come back.
This creates three problems. Your income depends on each client's motivation that week. Clients often stop right when the work gets uncomfortable, which is just before the change happens. And you spend your energy filling slots instead of coaching.
A life coach who sells a journey sells a destination, and the destination justifies the price far better than an hour of conversation. The question shifts from is this session worth it? to is this change worth the commitment?
How do you build a price that actually holds?
Start from the bottom, not from what other coaches charge. Three questions are enough.
- What do you need each month? Not a dream figure, a real need: business costs, taxes, and what you pay yourself to live.
- How many people can you coach at the same time without burning out? Life coaching takes presence. Count the time between sessions too: preparation, messages, notes, follow-ups.
- How long is your programme? Several weeks, several months. The longer the journey, the higher the total price and the deeper the result.
Divide your monthly need by your realistic number of spots, spread it across the length of the programme, and you have your floor price. Below it, you lose money even with a full calendar.
Then test that floor against the change you promise. Someone who finishes your programme with a career decision made, a plan and the confidence to follow it has gained far more than hours of listening. If your floor feels high, that is not a sign to lower it. It is a sign to make the outcome clearer.
What tiers should a life coach offer?
- Entry tier, 27 to 97 euros: a workshop, a practical guide, a group session. People discover how you work at low risk.
- Middle tier, 300 to 800 euros: a short, focused format, such as a few sessions to settle one specific decision.
- Full programme, from 2,000 euros: the multi-month journey with support between sessions, for deep change.
The entry tier is not meant to pay your bills. It is a door. Your full programme carries your business, so build that price first.
How do you state your price without apologising?
When the price comes up, it is tempting to stumble, offer a discount nobody asked for, or rush through it. The issue is not the number. It is the delivery.
State your price after summarising what the person shared and what the programme will change for them. Say the amount once, clearly. Then stop talking. The silence belongs to them: they are thinking, not judging you.
Offering a payment plan genuinely helps. Dropping your price at the first frown does not: it tells the client your rate was never serious.
A price stated calmly reassures clients more than a low price stated with embarrassment.
In short
A life coaching price is built: real needs, sustainable capacity, programme length, then a check against the promised change. Organise your tiers around your full programme and state your rate without justifying it.
