Overview — Successful call, missed payment: the 3 invisible leaks

You had a successful call. Your prospect said yes. Then... radio silence. Two days. A week. They disappear before even pulling out their card.

This void between the 'yes' and the payment costs you 30 to 40% of your potential signatures. And it's not bad luck: it's a system with leaks.

Here are the 3 invisible reasons why your client evaporates right after saying yes.

1. You didn't create a "payment momentum" during the call

During the call, you're in flow. Your prospect is too. The energy is there. But you end with "I'll send you the payment link by email".

And there, you kill the momentum.

When the call ends, the emotion drops. Your prospect gets back to their daily life. They see other emails. They doubt. They postpone.

The solution: create the payment during the call. Not after.

Concrete example: at the end of the call, you say "let's create your access right now. I'm going to send you the secure payment link by SMS right now. It takes 2 minutes." You send them the link while they're still on the phone. They pay. Done.

Waiting time kills the yes. Immediate action locks it in.

2. Your confirmation email is vague or late

You send the email 2 hours after the call. Or the next day. Or worse: you forget.

In this void, your prospect questions themselves. "Was this really serious? Why hasn't he sent me the link yet? Maybe I misunderstood the price..." And they look for a reason not to pay.

Late email = doubt created.

The solution: email within 10 minutes after the call. Before doubt sets in.

This email must contain 3 things and only 3:

No rambling. No explanation. They heard all that in the call.

3. You didn't address hidden objections before the call ended

Your prospect says yes, but they have an unspoken objection. Maybe:

After the call, this invisible objection grows. And they don't pay.

The solution: before ending the call, ask clearly: "Is there anything blocking you from taking action now?" Not "Any questions?". But: "Anything blocking you?"

You force them to verbalize. And you address it before they hang up.

If it's "I need to ask my partner", you say: "Perfect. How long do you think that will take? I'm sending you the link now, and you confirm with me as soon as you get their OK." You create a micro-deadline.

Concrete action

This week, on your next call that ends with a yes:

  1. Create the payment during the call. Send them the link by SMS immediately.
  2. If you can't, send the email within 10 minutes with just the link and deadline.
  3. Before ending, ask: "Anything blocking you from taking action now?"

These 3 actions will take you from 50% to 70% closing rate. Tested, validated.

FAQ

What if my prospect says yes but asks me to send them the link later?

That's a hidden objection signal. You respond: 'Of course. Before you go, one last question: is there anything blocking you from taking action now?' Then you address the real objection. If it's genuinely logistical (no card nearby), you say 'I'll send it to you by SMS, you can pay whenever. But I need to close your access tonight so you can start tomorrow.' Urgency + ease.

What tool should I use to send the payment link during the call?

If you're using Stripe or Lemonsqueezy, copy the link and send it by SMS or WhatsApp. If you're using a calendar system with integrated payment (Cal.com, Calendly), it's automatic. The key: no email during the call. SMS or WhatsApp = faster, more visible, more urgency.

What if my prospect pays but asks for a cancellation within 24 hours?

That's normal. Between 10 and 20% of your clients will do that. It's not a problem if you have a real refund policy (7 days is standard). But if you have more than 20%, then you have a qualification or expectation alignment problem on the call. That needs reviewing.
