The 3 Leaks Before the Discovery Call

You have a hot prospect. Then he disappears. Between the first contact (WhatsApp, LinkedIn, email) and the discovery call, something breaks. You say you need to "work on sales," but the problem isn't your call technique. It's what happens before.

The three invisible leaks that kill your conversion before you even pick up the phone.

Leak 1: No visible Calendly = friction in access

The prospect writes you. You reply "let's do a call Thursday at 2pm?". He says yes. Then silence. Why? Because he has to follow up with you to confirm, or he forgets, or he thinks you won't be available.

A Calendly link in your bio, your email signature, your website = one friction removed. The prospect clicks, sees your available slots, books in 20 seconds. No back and forth. No forgotten calls.

Consultants who added a Calendly see 35% more confirmed meetings. Not because it's magic, but because you remove the step "wait for confirmation".

Leak 2: Incomplete website = lack of proof before the call

The prospect googles your name. He lands on your website. What does he see? A blank page? A site with no photo, no client success story, no clear description of what you do?

He thinks about three other consultants he saw this week. He chooses the one with a website that breathes legitimacy. Not yours.

Before the call, the prospect needs three things: (1) to know exactly what you do, (2) to see that it works (at least one client case), (3) to trust that you're serious (professional photo, clear bio, visible contact).

Without it, he gives you a 50% chance of being legitimate. With it, 80%.

Leak 3: No written qualification = you're talking to anyone

You accept calls without filtering. Result: 70% of your calls are with prospects who can't pay or are just looking for free info.

Pre-written qualification (three key questions via WhatsApp or email before the call) changes everything. "What's your current revenue? What specific problem do you want to solve? What budget have you set aside?"

Non-serious prospects drop out. Real prospects answer and come to the call already engaged. Your signature rate goes up because you're no longer wasting time on noise.

Order matters

Calendly first (it's technical, 2 hours). Website next (it's marketing, 1 day). Qualification last (it's system, 30 minutes of template).

Do it this week. No perfection needed. Just close the three holes.

Your pre-call conversion rate will go from 30% to 60%. That's what makes the difference between "I have calls" and "I have calls that close".

FAQ

But I already use a booking system, why does this change things?

If your Calendly isn't visible (not in your bio, not on your website, not in your signature), the prospect won't find it. Visibility = adoption. Test it: add the link everywhere this week and count direct bookings vs confirmation messages.

I don't have a client case yet. How do I do the website?

You don't need 10 success stories. One is enough. Or a quantified result ("clients increase their revenue by 30% in 3 months"). Or a 1-minute video of you talking about what you do. Something that breaks the silence.

Isn't qualification too sales-y? Will prospects feel tested?

No. It's a mutually beneficial filter. You say: "So we save time, I have three quick questions." Serious prospects answer in 2 minutes. The others disappear. Everyone wins.

The Trap of Accepting Any Prospect: A Consultant's Pitfall Taking on any prospective client is a consultant's trap. Being selective about your clients is crucial to your long-term success and well-being. Here's why accepting every prospect can be problematic: **Time and Resource Drain** Every client requires time, energy, and resources. Accepting unsuitable prospects stretches your capacity and prevents you from focusing on ideal clients who value your expertise. **Misaligned Expectations** Clients who don't fit your profile often have different expectations and working styles. This mismatch leads to frustration, communication difficulties, and ultimately dissatisfied clients. **Impact on Your Reputation** Working with the wrong clients increases the risk of failed projects and poor testimonials. Your reputation suffers when you take on engagements you're not equipped to handle successfully. **Lower Profitability** Not all prospects generate equal revenue. Some require excessive hand-holding or scope creep, reducing your profit margins while demanding disproportionate effort. **Consultant Burnout** Constantly managing difficult client relationships drains your motivation and enthusiasm. This affects the quality of work you deliver to your best clients. **The Solution** Define your ideal client profile clearly. Be selective and strategic about which opportunities to pursue. Quality relationships with well-matched clients are far more valuable than a large number of problematic ones.
