# Niche positioning: becoming THE reference in your market
*Reading time : 4 min · Offer & Positioning · 2026-06-02*
**In short :** Voici un test rapide. Envoie ta page de vente ou ta bio LinkedIn à quelqu'un qui ne te connaît pas. Demande-lui d'expliquer, en une phrase, ce que tu fais et pour…

## How this article unfolds

1. The 8-second test exposes the confusion — A stranger reading your page or bio can't sum up your offer in one sentence, and that quietly loses clients every week.
2. Five causes blur the message — Jargon, too many promises, focus on methods over outcomes, a vague ICP and mismatched wording across LinkedIn, site and bio dilute clarity.
3. The 'first glance' method proves the diagnosis — Showing your message for 5 seconds to 5-10 ICP people and asking what they understood pinpoints exactly what to cut.

Here's a quick test. Send your sales page or LinkedIn bio to someone who doesn't know you. Ask them to explain, in one sentence, what you do and who you do it for. If that person hesitates, reformulates, or describes something vague — you have an offer clarity problem. And that problem is costing you clients every week.

Clarity isn't a luxury in premium consulting. It's a survival condition. In a market where prospect attention averages 8 seconds, an offer requiring comprehension effort is an offer that loses. Not because the prospect isn't interested — but because their brain prefers moving to the neighboring offer, easier to grasp.

## The 5 reasons clients don't understand

**Reason 1 — Too much jargon:** You use industry terms your clients don't master. 'Transformational coaching', 'applied emotional intelligence', 'organizational systemic'... This vocabulary means something to you — not necessarily to your prospect. Translate into client language.

**Reason 2 — Too many results:** Promising everything dilutes everything. An offer simultaneously promising 'more clients, better organization, more self-confidence, better balance, and an engaged community' loses its impact. Choose one primary result and anchor everything else around it.

**Reason 3 — Too centered on means:** You talk about what you do (sessions, modules, tools) rather than what the client gets. Means are secondary to your prospect — they're buying a destination, not a mode of transport.

**Reason 4 — Lack of ICP specificity:** 'For entrepreneurs who want to develop' is a description so broad it speaks to no one specifically. The more precisely you define who you're addressing, the more the relevant people feel directly targeted.

**Reason 5 — Inconsistency across channels:** Your website says one thing, your LinkedIn another, your bio a third. This inconsistency creates confusion and erodes trust. Your message must be identical regardless of the entry point.

## The 'first glance' method

To evaluate your offer's clarity, use the first glance method. Show your main message to someone from your ICP for exactly 5 seconds, then hide it. Ask them: 'What did you understand?' and 'Who is this for?'

If the answers are vague, incomplete, or incorrect, you know exactly what to work on. This simple test, repeated with 5 to 10 people from your target audience, will give you more insights about your communication than an entire day of introspective reflection.

> Clarity is the result of pruning work, not addition. The more you remove the superfluous, the more the essential message emerges with force.

## Rewriting your offer with the PVR method

The PVR method — Problem, Value, Result — is the simplest and most effective structure for formulating a clear offer:

- ✦ P — Problem: precisely name your ICP's main pain point in their own words
- ✦ V — Value: describe your solution in a unique and memorable way
- ✦ R — Result: formulate the concrete, quantified, time-defined result

Example: 'You're a certified coach but signing fewer than 3 clients per month and every month is a source of stress (P). I help coaches like you build a LinkedIn acquisition system that generates qualified calls predictably (V). In 4 months, you'll sign 2 premium clients per month at 3000€ minimum, without advertising or cold calling (R).'

This exercise takes time but its return on investment is immediate. A clear offer converts better, attracts better clients, and sells more easily at higher rates. Clarity is the first growth lever for any independent consultant.
