# How many clients do you need to live from your business? (calculator)
*Reading time : 5 min · Strategy · 2026-09-06*
**In short :** Trois chiffres que tu connais déjà — prix, durée, objectif — et le calculateur te donne le nombre de clients actifs, de nouvelles signatures par mois et d'appels à tenir. Puis ce que ces chiffres disent de ton offre.

## How this article unfolds

1. The calculator — Enter your numbers.
2. Three scenarios for 5,000 € a month — The same goal, three different offers.
3. What the calculation says about your offer — If your result shows more than ten new clients a month, your problem isn't prospecting.
4. What the calculation says about your pipeline — The number of calls is a weekly target, not a monthly one: five calls a month is one or two a week, every week.
5. The three calculation mistakes — - Counting revenue, not income. Out of 5,000 € collected, there are still charges, tools, taxes.
6. The calculation on one page — Price ÷ duration = revenue per client per month → target ÷ that revenue = clients active at once → active clients ÷ duration = new clients per month → × calls p

"How many clients do I need to live from my business?" Almost every coach and consultant asks the question — and almost all answer it with a guess: "about ten, I think." That isn't a number, it's a worry. And a worry without a number produces two behaviours: accepting any client, and undercharging.

The answer fits in three numbers you already know: the price of your programme, its duration, and the monthly revenue you're aiming for. The calculator below does the rest — number of clients active at the same time, new clients to sign each month, and discovery calls to hold to get there. Then we look at what those numbers say about your offer, because that's where most plans change.

## The calculator

Enter your numbers. The result updates on its own.

## Three scenarios for 5,000 € a month

The same goal, three different offers. Look at the last column: that's what decides your life.

Three readings:

**Revenue per client per month** is the number that counts, not the price. 3,000 € over three months and 6,000 € over six months bring in the same each month — but the second needs half as many signatures.

**The number of active clients** tells you your load: five clients at once is sustainable alone; thirty-four sessions a month is a full practice that leaves no room to sell.

**Calls per month** tell you your sales effort: three to five calls a month is one conversation a week; a hundred is impossible without a team.

## What the calculation says about your offer

If your result shows more than ten new clients a month, your problem isn't prospecting. It's the offer: too short, too cheap, or sold by the unit. No acquisition method sustains a pace of thirty monthly signatures for an independent.

Two levers change everything, and they don't require more skill:

**Lengthen.** A three-to-six-month programme rather than a standalone workshop: same expertise, one signature instead of three, and revenue that doesn't restart from zero every month. [The small-contracts guide](https://www.bizzyconsulting.agency/blog/petits-contrats-illusion-croissance-modele-perenne?lang=en) explains the switch.

**Raise the price.** Between 1,500 and 3,500 €, you attract price-sensitive buyers and multiply sales cycles. Reframing the offer as a result and targeting people for whom the amount is marginal divides the number of clients needed by two or three. [The pricing guide](https://www.bizzyconsulting.agency/blog/vendre-une-offre-3000-5000-8000-euros?lang=en) details the method.

Redo the calculation with a 4,500 € offer over four months: for 5,000 € a month, you need a little over one new client a month, and three or four calls. It's a different job.

## What the calculation says about your pipeline

The number of calls is a weekly target, not a monthly one: five calls a month is one or two a week, every week. And a call doesn't fall from the sky — it comes from a conversation, which comes from a contact.

Trace the chain back: for one call, how many conversations opened? For one conversation, how many messages or pieces of content? Those ratios are yours, and you only know them by measuring. To start, a working rule: three conversations for one call, three calls for one signature. It improves fast with [qualification before the call](https://www.bizzyconsulting.agency/blog/accepter-tous-les-clients-qualifier-dire-non?lang=en) and [a structured call](https://www.bizzyconsulting.agency/blog/appel-decouverte-structure-script-questions?lang=en).

And if you don't have an audience, that's not a problem: [the system for finding clients without an audience](https://www.bizzyconsulting.agency/blog/trouver-des-clients-coach-consultant-sans-audience?lang=en) starts from exactly these three numbers.

## The three calculation mistakes

- **Counting revenue, not income.** Out of 5,000 € collected, there are still charges, tools, taxes. Aim for the revenue that leaves you the income you want — not the income itself.

- **Forgetting selling time.** A programme with ten hours of delivery also demands the hours of prospecting, calls, follow-up. The more clients to sign, the bigger that share grows — until it eats the delivery.

- **Confusing peak and pace.** Three signatures in your launch month don't make three signatures a month. The calculation is done on the pace you can sustain twelve months in a row, not on the best month.

## The calculation on one page

Price ÷ duration = revenue per client per month → target ÷ that revenue = clients active at once → active clients ÷ duration = new clients per month → × calls per signature = calls per month → more than ten new clients a month: it's the offer to change, not the prospecting → lengthen, raise the price, recalculate.

**Want to do this calculation with someone, on your real offer?** [Book a 45-minute call](https://www.bizzyconsulting.agency/en?book=1&src=blog&a=combien-de-clients-pour-vivre-de-ton-activite): we start from the numbers you entered above, and you leave with the offer — price, duration, target — that makes your goal reachable.
## Frequently asked questions

**How many clients do you need to live from coaching?**

It depends only on three numbers: the price of your programme, its duration and your monthly target. At 3,000 € over three months for 5,000 € a month, you need five active clients and fewer than two new signatures a month. At 150 € a session, you need thirty-four a month.

**How do I calculate my monthly revenue target?**

Start from the net income you want, add social charges, tools and the taxes of your status, and you get the revenue to aim for. That's the figure to enter in the calculator, not the net income.

**My calculation gives twenty clients a month, is that normal?**

No, it's the signal that the offer is too short or too cheap, or sold by the unit. No acquisition method sustains that pace for an independent. Lengthen the programme, raise the price, recalculate.

**How many discovery calls to sign one client?**

To start, take three calls per signature as a working rule, then replace it with your real ratio as soon as you have ten measured calls. Qualification before the call and a structured call bring that number down.

**Should I count clients on annual follow-up?**

Yes, and it's the best revenue: a follow-up of two sessions a month signed for a year counts as an active client for twelve months, with no new sale. The more you have, the fewer new signatures you need each month.
