# Leadership coach: what to offer when coaching ends
*Reading time : 4 min · Offer & Positioning · 2026-05-29*
**In short :** Coach en leadership, tes clientes terminent leur parcours et disparaissent ? Prépare la suite dès le départ : un format pour continuer, sans forcer la main.

## How this article unfolds

1. Mention it at signing — From day one, the client knows a review and a possible follow-up await.
2. A three-question review — Starting point, changes in her week, the next challenge she names.
3. Move up a level — A light follow-up to anchor, or an advanced format to step up to the next challenge.
4. Stay in touch after a no — Newsletter and a message three months later: she returns at her next promotion.

A leadership coach keeps clients after a programme ends by preparing the next step from the very beginning: a review that shows how far she has come, then two clear options, a light follow-up to anchor progress and an advanced format for her next challenge. Without an offer, even a delighted client walks away.

## Why satisfied clients leave

A follow-on offer is what you present when a client's programme ends, so she can keep growing with you if she wants. It is not a hard sell. It answers a question she is already asking herself: what now?

In leadership, change does not stop at the last session. Your client has gained confidence, learnt to delegate and led her first difficult conversations. Then a new situation arrives: a promotion, a bigger team, a conflict with her own manager. If nothing was planned, she copes alone or looks for someone else. A satisfied client who leaves quietly is not rejecting you. There was simply no open door.

## The end-of-programme review

Before offering anything, run a real review, in a dedicated session or the last part of your final meeting. Ask three questions: where were you at the start (read her first-session words back to her); what has changed in your week (concrete facts such as a meeting run differently or an evening reclaimed); and what is your next challenge? That third question opens the follow-up naturally, because she has just named what lies ahead.

## Which follow-ups to offer a leadership coaching client

- **A light follow-up to anchor progress:** one session a month or a quarterly check-in, so old habits do not creep back.
- **An advanced format for the next challenge:** a new programme focused on what she just named, such as leading a larger team, negotiating a pay rise or finding her voice at board level. It raises the bar rather than repeating the first programme.
- **A peer circle you host:** former clients sharing situations. Women in leadership often grow a lot through peers facing the same issues.

Keep it to two or three options. Too many choices stop people choosing.

## Prepare the next step from day one

When you present your coaching, say simply that you will review progress together at the end, and that a follow-up exists if she wants to continue. During the programme, note topics she puts aside for later: they often become the follow-up. If she says no, keep in touch with your newsletter or a message three months later. A former client who returns at her next promotion is often your best client and your strongest referrer.

## Frequently asked questions

**How can a leadership coach retain clients?**

Announce at signing that you will review progress together at the end, then offer two clear follow-ups during that review: a monthly session to anchor progress, or a new programme focused on the next challenge the client names herself.

**What should I offer a client at the end of a coaching programme?**

A light follow-up to consolidate, such as a monthly or quarterly check-in, and an advanced format for her next challenge, like a bigger role. Two options are enough; more makes clients postpone their decision.

**How do I offer a coaching renewal without sounding salesy?**

Start from the review. When the client names her own next challenge, offering a follow-up answers her question rather than selling. Mentioning on day one that a follow-up exists also avoids any surprise at the end.
