# Life coach program: how to structure it week by week
*Reading time : 4 min · Offer & Positioning · 2026-10-04*
**In short :** Transformer tes séances de coach de vie en programme sur plusieurs semaines : les étapes du parcours, le travail entre les séances, et la façon de le présenter.

## How this article unfolds

1. Write the end result — State in one sentence where the client will be at the end of the journey.
2. Name the stages — Take stock, direction, action, anchoring: one goal and one deliverable for each.
3. Link the sessions — A short task to complete and a mid-week touchpoint between meetings.
4. Present a path — A name that states the destination, the starting point, the stages and what is included.

A life coach turns sessions into a program when every meeting has a clear place in a journey: taking stock, choosing a direction, taking action, making the change stick. The client knows where they are, what comes next and why they keep showing up. A program is built stage by stage, not session by session.

## What is a life coaching program?

A life coaching program is a journey of several weeks, with a starting point, a destination and named stages in between. It is not a string of sessions where you talk about whatever happened that week. It is a path you designed before meeting the client, then adapted to their situation.

The difference shows from the very first session. Without a program, the client arrives and waits for you to figure out what to do. With one, they arrive knowing what you are working on today and what it prepares for.

**A life coaching program reassures clients because it makes the change visible before it happens.** It also lets you present it clearly, sell it as a whole and stop improvising every week.

## How do you break the journey into stages?

Start from the result. Write in one sentence where the client should be at the end: *they have made their career-change decision and taken the first step*, or *they have rebuilt a stable daily life after the separation*. Then work backwards.

Life coaching journeys often move through four stages. Rename them in your own words:

- **Take stock.** Understand the real situation, what weighs on them, what they have already tried.
- **Choose a direction.** Clarify what they truly want, sort the options, make a decision. Often the longest stage.
- **Take action.** Turn the decision into small concrete steps, with commitments from one session to the next.
- **Make it stick.** Review progress, spot what could pull them back, prepare for life after coaching.

Give each stage a name, a goal and a deliverable: a map of the situation, a written decision, an action plan, a final review. The client leaves every stage with something tangible.

Do not pile on content. An overloaded program exhausts clients and makes them drop off. A few well-chosen exercises beat a stack of worksheets nobody reads.

## What happens between sessions?

This is where a program differs from a series of appointments. Change does not happen during the hour together. It happens in the week that follows.

Plan a short task for each session: a written reflection, a conversation to have, a small real-life experiment. Nothing heavy, something doable on a weeknight.

Add a touchpoint between sessions: a mid-week message asking how the commitment is going, or a space where the client can send you a question. That thread makes them feel supported, not just seen once a week.

Open every session by reviewing what happened since the last one. This ritual shows the distance travelled, and it is often when clients realise they have changed.

## How should a life coach present the program?

Present it as a journey, not a list of hours. Four elements are enough:

- a name that states the destination, not the method;
- the starting situation the client recognises;
- the named stages and what each one delivers;
- what is included: sessions, work between sessions, touchpoints, length.

**Eight weeks to go from hesitation to a decision made and a first step taken speaks far louder than eight sessions.** Framed like this, a life coaching program is hard to compare. It no longer looks like an hour of talking. It looks like a path you walk with someone.

## The takeaway

Build your life coach program from the final result, split it into named stages with a deliverable each, and hold it together with the work between sessions. Present it as a path, and your sessions become a program people choose.

## Frequently asked questions

**How do I create a life coaching program?**

A life coach creates a program by writing the end result in one sentence, then working backwards into named stages: take stock, choose a direction, take action, make it stick. Each stage gets a goal, a tangible deliverable and a short task for the client to complete between sessions.

**How long should a life coaching program last?**

Length depends on the change you are aiming for, not on a fixed number of sessions. A life coach counts the time needed to take stock, decide, act and anchor the change. A journey of several weeks gives the work between sessions enough time to produce real results.

**What should clients do between life coaching sessions?**

Between sessions, clients complete a short task: a written reflection, a conversation to have, a small real-life experiment. The life coach adds a touchpoint such as a mid-week check-in, then opens the next session by reviewing what has happened since the last meeting.
